Kimberly Shursens newest book Conviction gets 5 stars!! Conviction is another controversial book that starts off slow as you learn the back round of each character. As the book goes on, you are launched into a million different emotions with each of the characters. Eventually as all the pieces fall into place the ending has your mouth hanging open saying "I never saw that coming!" (please don't go to end to read it) I actually had to go back and re-read the last few page's because I couldn't believe what I was reading.You can't help but fall in love with Lillie, Zeb and most importantly T.J.Kimberly thank you again for another thrilling and exciting read. I am looking forward to your next book. You cease to amaze me with each book. Each book is better than the one before!

Kimberly Shursen is irritating. I was on a six-hour flight and took plenty of paper work with me. Unfortunately, I went to "Conviction" instead of working. I was just going to read for a few minutes. I ended up reading the entire flight; I got no work done. Kimberly's books grab my throat and heart. My throat because the twists and turns in her novels grab me and won't let me quit reading. My heart because I can feel my heart rate racing. "Conviction" deals with one of the most difficult people to rehabilitate...emotionally, relationally and spiritually. That person is the religious zealot who reads his scriptures and applies and lives them in a twisted way...and thinks he is on a God-ordained mission. Such a person completely violates Jesus' words to take the log out of our own eye before we take the speck out of our brother's eye. Once again, Kimberly's creativity, writing abilities and research make for a fast-paced, exciting and fun read. Rev. Dr. John Vawter

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this latest Kimberly Shursen novel. I actually know Kimberly IRL so it is amazing to me that I am friends with such a talented writer - particularly since she's had a successful carreer and life as well as other artistic endeavors but didn't start as a novelest until she was.... (not gonna say - but she isn't as old as me :)I've recommended her books to friends and no one has ever told me that they weren't delighted with the read. Can't wait for the next one!

I've been a follower of Kimberly's books from the beginning. I'm always in "awe" with each one. I always try to become one of the characters of the book....and this one was the best! I thought I'd read a few chapters on my day off, then finish it later.....NOT! It held me captivated until the end and then I was what? Did it just end this way? I am so looking forward to the next one......Keep up the good work Ms. Shursen....... I'll be patiently waiting for the next one!

I have read every book from this author and found this one to be most sinister in many ways. It was not predictable at all and really quite scary as this book describes things that are going on in the world today that I would rather not know about. It took me a few chapters to get started but once I got there, I just had to keep reading. Highly recommend this book as it will challenge your standards of what is normal, what normal really is and what we wish "normal" to be.Great author.... Waiting for the next one.... :)

I'm so happy the book finished with"THE END...for now".Just like all of Kimberly Shursen's books, Conviction has you wanting to learn more about each character. If you put the book down, if you HAVE to, you are still left wondering about the story or people in it as you go about your day.You're drawn into the mind and life of a psychopath who believes he's doing God's work. Once you reach the end you think it's over but you're in for another story that just begins. Conviction is a must read!

What a excellent read!! Once again, was not disappointed at all with yet another book by Kimberly Shursen!!The story really grabbed my attention right from the start and I was on the edge of my seat at the end!!

Each woman's story is incredibly compelling and fascinating. My personal favorite is the story of Emily Warren Robeling, who was instrumental in the building of the Brooklyn Bridge in the 1800s. Since most people experience discrimination of one sort or another, reading about women who overcame extraordinary obstacles to accomplish greatness is incredibly motivating. When children read the biographies they will see that what all these women had in common were a good education, supportive parents and unfaltering perseverance no matter what came their way. This book will inspire all those who read it to pursue careers without limitation and aspire to use their skills to the fullest. I highly recommend this book!

I grew up just down the coast from Hearst Castle and made many visits to the "Enchanted Hill" over the years. I was always fascinated by the fact that a woman designed the castle in the early 1900's and even engineered a unique system to bring water to the castle from a well 7 miles away. For those wanting something about history, health benefits/risks, fortified wines, serving temps, food pairings, etc there's that, too if you're interested.Anyways, wrote down some pertinent info like trying for varieties with around 12% or less alcohol for more balanced flavor, read the back of the labels to see if they were coming from the right regions of the countries I was aiming for as well as looking for popular varieties and then went into my local Friar Tucks armed and ready. Only critique I have would be to provide handy links from table of contents so you could easily access each chapter and the wealth of info provided. Very good book and I do recommend as it is packed with useful information!

Wine makes me happy, and I never once thought about what makes it good until I stumbled across this book. The detailed breakdown of grapes used, regions and proper aging has become a cool parlor trick when I want to surprise my friends with my wine knowledge, such as stay away from California wines if you don't particular care for the oakier tasting wines and sweet wines should be ages less than two years to maintain maximum sweetness. This guide has also made me better at reading the wine labels so even on my cheaper bottles I know the higher quality wines for my price point. Unlike some other guides, this book doesn't try to convince you of what wines are "good" or which ones you should like. It instead chooses to informs you on what your favorite wine type ( Riesling for myself ) is made from, the region, grapes and aging of it. From there it simply suggest ways to get the most wuality from your wine without overthinking it. Not all the information here is mandatory to enjoy the wines you love. I would flip to my favorite types, find what to look for then take that information with me when grocery shopping. I've picked better wines that is normally pass over with the information I found here! I'm happy for my new favorites and I'm sure if you read this book you'll find some new favorites too!

I am not a very educated man when it comes to wines. I am more of a beer guy. When it comes to wines, I like them just fine, but it always seemed to me like they are reserved for snobby types. Well, I was wrong and this book helped me realize that.This is a very well-rounded guide on wines, it is detailed and comprehensive, but interesting enough to keep you reading. It is not just listing facts, I even had fun with reading it. I definitely learned a lot, and while I probably would not feel comfortable discussing wines in public just yet, I am on a way to doing so. Recommended from me.

I also learned of a new phobia: Oenophobia, and I am so glad that I do not suffer from this! haha.I now plan on joining a wine tasting club as I continue my journey to learn more. I really enjoyed this book and I know I will refer back to it from time to time.

Leviathan Wakes is, without a doubt, the beginning of something amazing. I have the next two books in the series and I am looking forward to reading those as well as the additional novels I don't own yet.I owned this book for about three years without ever picking it up from my book shelf (I had pretty much forgotten about it) and I may have continued to neglect it were it not for The Expanse being produced by SyFy. Sadly, I watched the first season of the series before reading this novel and I don't like doing that...but I don't feel like it was detrimental in any way. I'd like to discuss a couple of the differences for those who have only either read the book or seen the television show before I do anything else.There are some pretty dramatic differences between the book and the series, the biggest being that the first season ends about 3/5 of the way through the narrative of the first novel, which is something I truly hope SyFy addresses with the second season since there is a lot going on in that third act of the story.The other major difference between the book and the television series is that we aren't introduced to the political environment and maneuvering taking place on Earth in the novel, though I appreciate that additional subplot from the show and actually kind of wish it had been part of the book.Beyond that, the differences are really quite minimal, some characters who don't quite line up between the two mediums (either because of descriptions that don't match up with the casting for the series or because the personalities/interactions are just a little bit off) and a couple of plot points that play out a touch differently or occasionally in different sequence...but those aren't as troubling as they could be.Written by James S.A. Corey (a fictional person, really the collaboration between Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), this is one hell of an ambitious novel, successfully weaving space opera, militaristic science fiction, and noir mystery into an exciting, intense, and sometimes even scary tapestry.The stated goal of the authors was to fill in the gap that is almost always present where science fiction is concerned. Typically we either end up with near-future cyberpunk or dystopian stories or distant future space operas and the like taking place after we have spread throughout the galaxy or even the universe itself. This book (and presumably the whole series) provides the reader with a suitably rich and detailed vision of what we have between those intervals, during the time when we are still colonizing our own solar system and only just considering setting our sights further into what we have beyond our galactic neighborhood.The interactions between Miller and Holden (as well as their separate storylines) are fantastic and well-written enough that the two protagonists really do provide vastly different lenses through which the same events are being experienced. We see a lot of that in The Expanse, but there is a lot of subtext that gets lost in translation between the two mediums.After reading this book I am determined to pick up some of Daniel Abraham's fantasy novels, which I might have ended up doing anyhow. The man is an excellent author and Ty Franck clearly learned a thing or two while working for George R.R. Martin where grand, sweeping narratives and visceral (almost punishing) inevitability in narratives are concerned.Whether you have already seen The Expanse or simply want to read an excellent science fiction novel, I have to recommend reading Leviathan Wakes.

I hate to follow the crowd with my reading choices so I was slow to try the expanse series. Now I know better. This was a good read. If you get past nit-picking the technological and astrophysics details, then you can settle back and enjoy the ride. The pace really makes this work. I watched the first couple of episodes of the TV series and hesitated to read the books because I was not interested in reading about palace intrigues and politicking. I'm glad that I finally bit the bullet and bought the book because the authors - it's actually two - do a great job weaving the politics into the plot without dragging out the story. I did like the characters and though the detective was particularly interesting. But overall, the pacing is just well done. If you want engaging material, then look no further. I bought this as a Kindle special and bought the 2nd book in the series at full price as soon as I finished this one. I'd call it a great space opera but it all takes place in our solar system, so maybe it's more accurate to call it great "solar opera." Whatever you call it, it's a great epic tale.

Since it seems like George R.R. Martin is not exactly going to be putting out the next installment in his epic series any time soon, I really felt like I needed another one to get into in the meantime. With the SyFy show based off these books, "The Expanse", gaining traction, I thought why not give sci-fi a try. I was not disappointed. This first installment only hints at the politics of the universe the authors have created, though I suspect we will get more detail about it in the following installments, but suffice it to say they do a great job setting up a believable world in which humanity has spread out into our solar system, having colonized Mars, the asteroid belt, and beyond. As can be expected of human nature, over the centuries of this arrangement, people in different places have come to have varying degrees of distrust for people from other locations, making the possibility of war ever-present. Amidst this environment we are introduced to a missing-girl case on Ceres Station being investigated by private security Agent Miller and the adventures of Jim Holden and his crew, who are trying to find out who attacked their ship. These 2 plots and the fate of the galaxy all wind up intertwining in intriguing and exciting ways. The story moves along at a quick pace, but still allows time to develop the characters and the world they populate. It is a thrilling tale that you will have a hard time putting down, even if you don't normally read science fiction, and which will leave you eager to get started on the next in the series.

I was worried about starting this book after watching the show on SyFy. I thought the show would be one big spoiler for the book. Well the show is great and so is the book. I knew basically were it was going but the book expands on the show in great and beautiful detail. I learned more about the characters and their motivations. As well as more details about the over arching politics of the solar system. I am excited to start the next book.
