I love Bernie Clark's yin yoga book but this is not that! I'm not sure what I was expecting when I bought this book but its just too technical for me. I was hoping for a book similar to previous yin books but this is an anatomy textbook. I wanted a book informed by yin yoga that would help me as a teacher (i.e., sequencing, keeping students safe, postural cues, and benefits). This book might be a good book for doctors, but its not helpful for me as a yoga teacher. This book has too much detail for me (and I say that as not only a yoga teacher, but a full time scientist who has studied anatomy in college). I'm bummed out that I have to pay $6 for a return label..

I love all the books written by Bernie Clark, especially this trilogy series. His writings and data are all scientifically well backed up (tons of reference pages) and well organized. I followed "How to read this book" and read what I need for my practices and teaching instead of cover to cover (it's great amount of information and could be intimidating!). Lots of good technique that we can offer in the class and my favorite is "Nerve Flossing!" I cannot wait for the next book from Bernie!

In depth information with good pictures to support the descriptions. I especially like the sections marked as "note to teachers". The language is clear to anyone even with no medical background. This is second book in the series. I have the first one - Your Body Your Yoga, and it's just as great.

Comprehensive and well written. I love it!

I've had two healthy children in previous years with no complications. This year I've been pregnant twice. The first time the AFP test showed possible spina bifida and at 18w we found that our baby had stopped having a heartbeat finally and had actually stopped growing at 12w. A few months later we got pregnant again. The doctors said the first was a fluke and with the exception of an extra ultrasound seemed unconcerned. THis baby died right at 12w. I bought this book right away knowing I want to try again, but will need to be armed with more information and wanted more guidance going into a third try.This book is a great read for anyone concerned about trying again. It lists the information out in very easy to understand terms. I really liked that it went from beginning to end from possible causes of miscarriage and stillbirth, to actively trying, and talks about the physical and emotional aspects of that journey to expect and even lays out how they might different from couple to couple. You read this book and don't feel crazy. You read this book and get back some of the confidence you may have lost in the medical community through the losses you've endured.I would recommend this book to anyone contemplating trying again after a loss. Lots of great resources listed in the back as well.

I wish i could give this book 6 stars. I have gone through two miscarriages. It is informative, compassionate, and covers all the the thoughts and emotions I am currently going through. We have decided to try again through the guidance of the book. There is a section on how to process your emotions when you get pregnant again. I hope to need that section on the near future.

Another of the "big three" of books that helped me get through the loss of my pregnancy/child a couple years ago (the other two being "Empty Cradle, Broken Heart" and "Trying After a Loss"). Because there is nothing that compares to this sort of loss, it is imperative to really deal with the issues and try to move through it. This book will definitely help.

Our four-yr-old daughter loves her unicorn headphones. They stay on her ears / head much better than other headphones we tried, especially in the carseat and stroller. I am one of the parents interviewed for this book.It's so true that when you lose a baby so many well-meaning people urge you to try again - as if being pregnant again will make everything better. I too thought everthing would be better but in my case my efforts to try again resulted in two more losses. I too thought that everything would be better if I could just hold onto another pregnancy. When I became pregnant fear and anxiety were my constant companions. Reading Ann's book has given me a sense of normalcy. I certainly am not the only one out there whose pregnancy was 38 weeks of near panic. This is a book that acknowledges those feelings and gives you ideas for how to cope.The one area that I wish Ann had discussed was when you decide to stop "trying again". I had three losses before we had our precious 3 year old. We tried to get pregnant a fifth time and after a year finally decided to stop trying. That decision created another loss for us. Somehow our grief was deeper as we re-grieved all our losses and then grieved for the children we would not have.This is a good book. I have given copies to friends that are trying again.

I have read a tons of books since I delivered stillborn 6 weeks ago. Most of the books I'm giving to my doctor to have as resources on hand for others that go through the same struggle, but this is one that I'm keeping. It is full of great information and I want to keep it until I deliver a healthy baby. I have already recommended this book to others I know that will find it helpful.

In general, I dislike reality shows. Only one I can tolerate is The Voice. My hugest quibble is that it cannot be an authentic reality show if you know you're being filmed. You simply can't help but put on an act. Having said that, I was, conversely, keen on the premise of this book. In "Skin of Your Teeth Survival," contestants - some of whom are self-described preppers - are transported to harsh environments and the camera crew films their efforts to survive. Pretty basic stuff, right? But what if, during the filming, an EMP detonates and takes out the national power grid? And the reality show becomes horrifyingly real?I (mostly) ate up this book. I think I found a new writer to follow in Grace Hamilton. And I'm low-key stoked that Surviving the Swamp is only book one in a series. Going in, I assumed the narrative point-of-views would alternate between Wolf and Regan, but no. It's all from Regan Goodfellow's perspective. She's a 27-year-old freelance IT specialist and bearer of a colossal chip on her shoulder. She's had one of those crummy upbringings that only a guy like Charles Dickens can salivate over. Regan grew up a loner, angry, self-reliant, and very guarded against those who try to get close to her. She doesn't trust people.But I like the people she falls in with in the swamp. It's not until, second week into the show, the camera crew fails to show up at the rendezvous point that the contestants finally get an inkling that something's screwy. It's up to the show's creator and host, Wolf Henderson, to guide the group out of the swamp, or those that decided to stay, anyway. (Some chose to strike out on their own.)Maybe it would've made for even more heightened drama if those that decided to stay were the weaker contestants. Honestly, if I were stuck in an inhospitable place, I can do worse than get stuck with this bunch. I also enjoyed the distinct personality tics. My favorite character is actually Tabitha, the paramedic with the sunny disposition. She and Regan are polar opposites in attitude. They become friends, anyway. There's Tabitha's big, loud mechanic hubby, Geno. And the lumbering, know-it-all science guy, Fred. And Wolf himself, who is a prepper and a survivalist and, if I remember it, an ex-serviceman. That's a solid squad with diverse skills.And what does Regan bring to the table? Well, she's feisty. And proclaims to be street-smart. But she's in a swamp.This may be the first post-apocalyptic, EMP grid-down story I'd read where the setting is in a swamp. It makes for an interesting read as there's plenty of knowledge dropped about how to survive while in a swamp, like what flora are edible or medicinal, fishing techniques, the importance of dry socks and of building a platform off the wet ground for when you rest up, etc.Yes, this is one of those survival stories in which a character is trying to get to their prepper compound. We get snippets from the characters in that compound, courtesy of a teenaged girl's personal journal. Hopefully, we get more of Lily in subsequent volumes.This was an excellent read, more informative and character-driven than action-packed. For the action-heads, there's a boss skirmish near the end where Regan proves her worth. But she's my big problem with the book. She's very hard to like. She's so dang mistrustful. She's arrogant and thinks that she can do better on her own. She was all the time challenging every decision Wolf, the survival expert, made, never mind that she's a straight-up novice in a swamp. She complains and argues with everyone and when she makes a poor decision later on, it's hard to sympathize with her plight. Anyway, I realize Regan is probably the most "dramatic" character in the group, so the story has to go thru her. But I wouldn't mind it if later books feature, say, Tabitha or the teenaged Lily as the point-of-view character. I'd like a deeper dive into what they think of Regan. Anyway, 4 out of 5 stars for Surviving the Swamp. Good read about a group of survivors who learn about the apocalypse a few weeks late and the repercussions to that.

I liked the premise of a survival show turning into a reality. One of the main characters, Regan kind of went over the top with her constant withdrawal from the group. I'm hoping she'll come around a little better than she has so far. I really like Wolf because he leads without pushing but has a quiet strength.

Another good book by Grace Hamilton! I can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Could not put this book down once I started reading it.

I received a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review.Surviving the Swamp is a story about a group of people from a reality TV show who get stranded in a swamp after an EMP hits, leaving them with no contact with the outside world, and very few supplies.I’m sorry, but hated Regan. She’s not a strong independent loner, she’s just a smart-mouthed, know-it-all, moron. I found myself hoping she would get less shrew-like and idiotic as the story unfolded, that she would be humbled by the experience…..I’ll let you find out for yourself if she does, I don’t want to spoil it. No one else was all that likeable either. I know they were supposed to be “real” people, but seriously, the stupidity in this group was a little extreme, even for fiction. The interactions and dialogue between the characters felt forced and doesn’t flow well, and the language was pretty cheesy. I did like how the people they encountered acted more like I imagine people would in this situation, ranging from helpful to hostile, and everything in between. Overall, not a horrible read, but the Regan character made it a very difficult read. I never found myself rooting for her, I just wanted her to shut up.

This was an okay read.It does generally work as post-apoc and it’s nice to read one that’s really just about the human factor (i.e. no zombies, pandemics, aliens, etc.) – and I really hope the series stays that way!The book has its grim parts, but our characters are mostly enjoyable to read.Our main character is a little harder to feel for. She’s a mix of prickly (which is okay) and goo-goo eyed over a guy (which kind of isn’t). I really wanted her to just be the tough girl she tries to be and no worry about if he likes her likes her.I’m not entirely certain that I’m up for the next book. All the main character's ‘feels’ were kind of getting in the way of adventure. We’ll see…*ARC Provided via Net Galley

This book is really elementary and should only be for first timer Fidget Spinners. My son laughed at the suggestions in the book, because they are so easy. If you are looking for something fun and new to do, look elsewhere.

My Grandson will love this book!

For the most part I was thinking that fidget pinners would be nothing but a short-lived fad. Wrong, really wrong because, like the Duncan yo-yo, they’re obviously here to stay. There’s a bit more to the fidget spinner than simple stress relief or entertainment. David King can certainly attest to that because he’s come up with a pile of entertaining tricks and activities that make me want to toss the single Spinner I have and buy a few more. According to him, “there are hundreds, thousands, maybe millions of fidget spinner designs out there.”I had no clue that these toys even had a story behind them and, in fact, have “been around in different forms since 1993.” Pogs I was familiar with, spinners, no. Back to those designs. Among the many discussed in this book there are spinners aplenty: The Tri, the Bi-Win, the Hex, the Quad, the Wheel, the Mini, the Fidget Cube, the Fidget Pad, the Fidget Flip, and the one I got in the Dollar Store. Well, skip that one because it’s not in here. There’s also a page of some ultra-cool fidget spinners in the “Hall of Fame.”This book is packed with some good-to know information I never knew. King starts off by describing how spinners are made and how they work. He explains that they are “actually little machines with a whole lot of physics behind them.” A word to the wise is in one sidebar and that’s the fact that fidget spinners shouldn’t be “distracting to other’s in a classroom.” The fun really begins when learning how to do some amazing tricks ... at home.
