I would say this fails the basic test of "helping backpackers have a good experience on a budget." Little helpful info on how to save money, such as staying at a Bahamian-run hotel off the beaten path (e.g., in the up-and-coming Golden Gates neighborhood), the current rate of a day-pass to Atlantis, or actually affordable places to eat. There was some useful information about historical sights, but Lonely Planet should really send another writer to visit for an update. Budget travel to the Bahamas is hard, but it's possible. Grabbing a meat patty for lunch, for example, is a great way to save. This guide actually *recommends* Graycliff, even though their food is pretty objectively poor value (you could get the same American meal in NYC for 30% less--just have some damn conch). I really got the impression that whomever visited here before really didn't like the Bahamas. It's no Thailand, but I spent under $1,000 including airfare and stayed for a week (in an unfinished hotel with friends), saw beautiful fish and amazing beaches, and ate the best Greek food I've had in my life. Lonely Planet needs to send someone who appreciates budget travel in the Bahamas for what it is.

I am a native of The Bahamas who bought the book to get an idea of how tourists would see the islands. That said, I am really enjoying being the owner of this book. The guide itself can use an update to reflect current prices and market. But other than that, it's interesting and I enjoy reading it! It also made me aware of quite a few things that I had not previously known.

Good book easy to read and helpful for planning your trip

Nice book. Informative and clear. Didn't have a ton of info on Andros, but that is probably because there is not much to write about! I got the info that I needed.

Information was interesting

Just what I needed with all details on the all the islands. Very helpful for my upcoming trip planning. Thank you!

I always choose Lonely planet as it had been accurate and helpful in my trips and to plan them beforehand.

This book tells a lot about all the islands. I'm going to island hop around the bahamas and feel this book is very informative
